Once every two weeks, you will spend an afternoon working on your own project (any tech that you want to research or any crazy application you’ve dreamt up – its your own thing!!).

Within this position you will have an influential role over technology and practice. But with 'great power' comes 'responsibility', it will be expected that you will involve others in new tech projects and 'share the knowledge'.

Our London based technology solutions company serves government endorsed organisations, trade associations and other organisations who need member information. We build and maintain bespoke web application and CRM / CMS systems for our clients across a variety of industries.

About the role

We are looking for a forward thinking Lead Developer to join our dedicated and responsive team in the centre of London. The role will participate in application architecture, solution design and project meetings.

You will be responsible for optimizing application performance, stability, usability, supportability and maintainability. You will be expected to listen to, understand and articulate the business value and impact of advanced technical and non-technical concepts to peers and/or management. You will be involved in anticipating problem troubleshooting scenarios and will analyse ways in which to mitigate risks. You will be expected to mentor junior developers and help embed good practice into our organisation.

You must be an advocate for new technologies and development practices and be able to implement and embed these into the solutions provided by the business. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to influence the future technology of the company so it is essential to be proactively aware and learn the latest development trends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Effectively communicate concepts and ideas to team members and product owners.
  • Provide time estimates for development & product delivery tasks.
  • Work with business analysts to understand requirements, value, prioritization, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work in a team to deliver software solutions by providing the essential benefit to the customers by delivering the simplest solution to the functional requirement.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the business unit functions and applications.
  • Provide helpful challenge and system technology alternatives.
  • Work cross-functionally with other team members: other developers, testers, product owners, designers, operations, and customer support.
  • Application performance tuning, troubleshooting/analysing complex problems.
  • Follow processes and procedures as assigned by management.
  • Mentor junior developers, new team members, and apply technical expertise to challenging programming and design problems.
  • Assist the support team resolve urgent production issues.
  • Demonstrate initiative / good judgement in decision making; taking appropriate actions on databases / products according to established standards & best practices with minimal assistance.
  • Communicate, collaborate, engage, escalate, & educate stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Handing over solutions to the support team and to assist them transition to the new technologies.


Technical Skills & Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in enterprise application design.
  • Strong knowledge on Microsoft Visual Studio and various Source control tools.
  • Experience in developing web/component/service based applications is required.
  • Knowledge of accepted software engineering methods such as object-oriented programming, structured programming, reusable software, life-cycle development, and software development process methodologies.
  • Hands-on knowledge on Design Patterns and UML.
  • Knowledge on Multi-threading and concurrency, and performance improvements.
  • Proficiency in writing unit tests & using unit testing frameworks – TDD.
  • Experience in designing applications using MVC.

    10% pension + 5% bonus + bens. 35 hour working week, 9-5
